Safe Passage/Camino Seguro is a not-for-profit organization working in Guatemala to empower the poorest at-risk children, whose families live in the Guatemala City garbage dump community, by creating opportunities and fostering dignity through the power of education.

We are seeking an individual to teach art classes that foster hope, leadership skills, self-esteem and confidence.Art Instructors must prepare engaging lesson plans that encourage self reflection and creative expression in every student. Classes include a combination of small group lessons with high-school age students exploring identity, larger group classes for younger students that reinforce universal values to create a culture of peace, as well as the possibility of individual one-on-one art therapy based sessions. Art Instructors are challenged to create a safe space for expression and encourage students to discover their individual talents and aspirations through the creative process.

This position has a housing allowance available that is equivalent to a local salary.

 

General Requirements:

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, values, principles and goals of Safe Passage
  • Intermediate / Advanced Spanish required
  • Good disciplinary and organization skills
  • Ability to work on a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
  • Flexibility, creative problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Patient, personable and enthusiastic
  • Experience in art and teaching and/or working with children preferred but enthusiastic beginners are welcome!
  • Creativity and love for art!
