Visitors Assistant PDF Print E-mail

Safe Passage/Camino Seguro is a not-for-profit organization working in Guatemala to empower the poorest at-risk children, whose families live in the Guatemala City garbage dump community, by creating opportunities and fostering dignity through the power of education.

This is an assistant position that requires introducing international and local visitors to Safe Passage with the goal of inspiring them to support our program through outreach and direct support. This position has a housing allowance available that is equivalent to local staff salary.

This position has responsibilities in the following main areas:

• Front-line contact for visitors interested in touring Safe Passage through our public tours every Thursday and through select private tour opportunities. Periodic evening presentations in Antigua targeted to tourists will also be required.

• Field inquiries from individuals who wish to visit the project outside of our formal tour opportunities. In those instances where an individual will be hosted by the Visitors Assistant, follow-up responsibilities would include anything from preparing an itinerary for the visit and assisting with accommodation arrangements, to coordinating activities within the program and serving as translators.

• Main point of contact in Guatemala for the US-based Outreach & Communications Coordinator. Liaison tasks in this important area could include taking photos and/or videos at the project; providing news and updates from the project for use on our website, through our social media channels, or in supporter communication pieces; or working with the US Office to field press inquiries for information or interviews at the project.

• Serve as back up for our Support Teams Coordinators, who lead international teams of 8-12 volunteers through a week-long volunteer experience at our project. The Visitors Assistant may be asked to support Teams by escorting a group to dinner, helping with transport, or other back-up as needed to help cultivate these important potential supporters.

• Assist with data entry for Teams and for Development as the entire Advancement Team seeks to keep more comprehensive and integrated records on our supporters.
